How often should I get a massage?

Massage for pain reduction and management is the most variable. You will really need to listen to your body and how it responds to different time spans between treatments. Initially, you will need frequent treatments – even up to three times a week. As the pain comes more under control, you and your therapist can talk about lessening the frequency until you reach a schedule that you can maintain and keeps the pain at bay. Usually this is once every week or two.

Ultimately you didn’t develop the problem that you are seeking relief from in only an hour so it only makes sense that it is going to take strategic, regular care to control it. Each massage can build on the progress of the last but only if you don’t let too much time elapse between sessions. If you do, the muscles revert back to their original state and you will need to start over with the next massage.
